Amelia Jenks Bloomer, a staunch advocate for women's rights, was a suffragist better known for her promotion of dress reform. After noticing the health hazards and restrictive nature of clothing that Victorian women were required to wear, Bloomer pushed for women to adopt a more sensible, new style of dress.
