The Akron Symphony Orchestra will highlight the influential work of six women composers/artists during the 2019-20 season as part of the Stand Beside Her project. Stand Beside Her is part of a yearlong recognition of the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which guarantees and protects women's constitutional right to vote. In honor of the centennial, Masquerade by Anna Clyne, Juba Dance & Finale by Florence Price, and Impressions of Cheonmachong by Kyle and Brooke Jee-in Newmaster, all part of Symphonic Dances has been selected as part of the Stand Beside Her project.
Anna Clyne is a Grammy-nominated composer of acoustic and electro-acoustic music. She served as composer-in-residence for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, L’Orchestre national d’Île-de-France, and Berkeley Symphony. Clyne currently serves as The Scottish Chamber Orchestra’s Associate Composer.
